Painting Temple Tirta Empul
No 2

Tirta Empul is a sacred spring in a temple complex of the same name. In this painting, the spring itself is depicted. It can be seen from the higher temple area.

The Tirta Empul temple has a slightly higher temple area with temple buildings. Believers pray there after spiritual purification in the holy water. From the upper temple area, one has a good view of the actual Tirta Empul spring.

The second painting Tirta Empul: the wellspring itself

The spring bubbles out of the bottom of the basin with light pressure. It shows a variety of colours in shades of blue, green and brown. The play of colours is probably caused by minerals. This pool is in the centre of the temple area and is protected by a surrounding balustrade.

I am fascinated by the wall reliefs in Balinese temples. Therefore, I have chosen two designs that can be found carved in stone in the Tirta Empul temple for my painting.

The designs of Balinese stone sculptors are innovative, inspired by nature and exuberant in their abundance. They are beautiful to look at and give due reverence to the Sacred Place. I want the designs in my painting to reflect that too. And I hope that I have succeeded, at least a little.

Praying in the upper area of the temple complex Tirta Empul

As already written in the post on the painting Tirta Empul No. 1, you have to wear dry temple clothes if you want to pray in the upper temple area. This part of Tirta Empul is not open to tourists. If you wish to pray in this temple area, you are advised to wear temple clothing and be accompanied by Balinese.

When I prayed in the upper temple area, I could feel the spring behind me.
